Hugh Greer is the winner of the 2006 Arts for the Parks Mini-100 GRAND PRIZE for his painting of the Harry S. Truman house in Independence, MO, entitled "The Buck Stops Here". In 2003 Hugh won the GRAND PRIZE at Arts for the Parks Top 100. He is the first artist to win the Grand Prize in both the Top 100 and the Mini-100. The Arts Council (Wichita, KS) presented Hugh with their Excellence in the Arts "Individual Artist Award" for 2004. In 2002, Hugh was the winner for Region III in the Arts for the Parks competition and the People's choice award for the same painting.

Hugh is a graduate of Kansas University with a degree in Industrial Design. He worked as an architectural delineator for 40 years and credits this as his "formal art training." He has a keen eye for composition and color and his landscapes are both nostalgic in their purity and realistic in their execution. Hugh is an artist who is able to paint in a style that is easy for people of all ages to relate to and appreciate.

Hugh is the author of two books. "Hugh Greer Missouri to New Mexico", published in 1997, is a sampling of his art with verse by Cathy Bolon Stephenson, and "Acrylic Landscape Painting Techniques:, published in 2001 by North Light, is a "how to..." book.

Hugh also has three instruction videos: "Acrylic Landscape Painting Tools & Techniques", "Landscape Studies in Acrylic", and "Create Mood and Atmosphere with Color & Value".

Course Description

Make your paintings glow!

Hugh will teach you how to mix colors using a limited palette and how to work in thin layers of washes to build up luminous colors. Through several step-by-step mini-demonstrations, you will learn how to create the moods and effects of a winter night or rainy day, soft hazy days, clouds and foregrounds.

You will discover the versatility of acrylic paint as we work on these mini-exercises together. Hugh's classes are fun and educational and you will be learning by doing.
