How can I contribute to Weehawken?
Weehawken is a non-profit 501c3 organization that is funded annually from a variety of sources, but largely what we do is made possible entirely by YOU, our supporters and public.
About 48% of the cost of offering a class or workshop from Weehawken is covered through student tuition and fees. The remaining 52% is funded by a variety of sources, including Grants (9%), Donations from citizens (5%), Sponsorship (5%), Events and Performances (7%), Fundraising (16%), Services (5%) and most importantly, Membership (5%).
1) Become a Member:
Our Membership support is essential to driving the impact and growth of Weehawken each year. Membership support is generous support because it is largely “unrestricted,” meaning, we apply it to areas of development and great need, such as scholarship support. You don’t have to be an active student with Weehawken to be a Member. By contributing to Weehawken with an Annual Membership, it essentially says that you philosophically endorse what Weehawken’s been doing and aims to do in the future: offer great programs for youth and adults that promote Ouray County for locals and visitors alike. We’ll keep going as long as you continue to keep pushing us forward. Please consider becoming a member today by clicking here at this link.
2) Make a Contribution/Donation (Restricted or Unrestricted):
Many people contribute to Weehawken’s general organizational needs (unrestricted) and other make a contribution to a specific cause, such as our Scholarship Fund. Our scholarship fund is generally depleted each semester and funds are allocated each semester based on the amount contributed in the prior semester. For example, Scholarships will be awarded in the Winter/Spring semester based on the contributions made to the fund during the Fall semester or prior to the scholarship deadline. Others have contributed to specific needs such as dance barres, computer software improvements, website improvements, dance flooring, etc. We make it a point to honor designated contributions – and house those contributions in a separate account until the expenditure is made. We love and need both kinds of contributions (restricted and unrestricted) Please click here at this link to make a donation to the organization
3) Event Sponsorship:
Weehawken generally seeks Business Membership support once a year (between October and March) and that support is for a calendar year (ex: 2011). In addition, Weehawken heads-out about 3 times a year for SPONSORSHIP of some of our specific events and programs. Specifically, we are looking for sponsors in 2011 for the following: 1) “LaBoutique” January Ballet Intensive Performance on Feb. 5th; 2) Weehawken Dance’s Spring Show, “The Wizard of Oz” (May 13-15); 3)Weehawken Summer Programs and Camps (including summer theatre performances – June – Sept); 4) Weehawken’s Ridgway Rendezvous Arts and Crafts Festival (2nd wknd in August); 5) Weehawken’s Gingerbread House Workshops (late Nov / early Dec); and 6) Weehawken Dance’s Annual production of “The Nutcracker” (December). 5) Volunteer:
Since Weehawken has only 1.5 administrative staff people, volunteer help is essential to our growth. Tell us how you’d like to help! Do you want to help clean and organize? Do you want to assist with classes? Can you sew costumes? Do you like to make set-pieces? Do you want to help supervise the behind the scenes action during a production? Can you take tickets? Can you hang posters in Ouray or Ridgway? Do you want a weekly job? Do you want a periodic job? Tell us what you have in mind and we’ll figure-out a role for you in our volunteer line-up. Email Ashley and tell her what you’d like to help with at questions@weehawkenarts.org
6) Participate in a Class or Workshop:
We’d be nowhere without our incredible student base. Contribute by trying something new, by advancing a skill or by teaching for us.
