For Interested Artists & Vendors

rendezvous application 2012

WELCOME!

Weehawken Creative Arts invites you to participate in the 28th ANNUAL RIDGWAY RENDEZVOUS ARTS & CRAFTS FESTIVAL on August 11 & 12, 2012!

Ridgway is located at the junction of Highways 550 and 62, in Southwest Colorado, Gateway to the beautiful San Juan Mountains.  Montrose, Ouray and Telluride are just a few miles from Ridgway.  We are an important town on the San Juan Scenic Highway, the most beautiful and popular tourist route in Colorado.  We offer artists and patrons a well organized, quality show.  We are known for one of  the most picturesque locations for booth set-up and for shoppers in our spacious town park and for successful sales for our vendors.  The Rendezvous is a juried show with a commitment to quality.  We market our show extensively in the region and the state and many patrons plan to attend the show a year ahead of time.

The show is attended by several thousand customers and is hailed by many of our regular participants as “one of their best shows of the year”.   The organizers offer live musical entertainment all day both days of the show and several attractions are geared specifically to children.  The event is fun for the whole family and there is no admission charge.  Our show is based on ALTITUDE (Ridgway is 6,985’ in elevation with cool, clean air) and ATTITUDE (we treat our vendors and patrons right!).  We hope to see you this summer!

The Ridgway Rendezvous Arts and Crafts Festival is hosted and sponsored by Weehawken Creative Arts with Kentee Pasek as the Creative Director for the Event.

ABOUT THE EVENT HOST / WHAT YOUR FEES ARE FUNDING

The Ridgway Rendezvous Arts and Crafts Festival is a fundraising event for Weehawken Creative Arts.   Weehawken Creative Arts is a 501c3 Non-Profit Organization dedicated to providing high-quality arts education and programming for adults and children year-round  in Ouray County.  Weehawken is Ouray County’s arts education center.

Since 2004, over 4,500 students from all over the state, and even from around the globe have enrolled in Weehawken Classes.  Since Weehawken’s inception, there have been over 655 classes offered in a variety of media including: fine arts, fiber arts, photography, horticulture, creative writing, culinary arts, craftsman arts, performing arts and creative movement. Additionally, over 4,800 individuals have participated in WCA performances as audience members.

The Ridgway Rendezvous Arts and Crafts Festival was “gifted” to Weehawken Creative Arts in 2009 from the previous organizers, Ridgway Community Pride.  This gift was given on the condition that Weehawken would enhance the artistic and children’s content at the Ridgway Rendezvous and that proceeds from the Rendezvous would support children’s arts programming.  Naturally, Weehawken chomped at the bit.

All proceeds from the Ridgway Rendezvous are earmarked for children’s arts programs through Weehawken Creative Arts and support not only children’s programs, but also summer scholarships for children at Weehawken.

Meet Our Directors:

Creative Director for the Ridgway Rendezvous: Kentee Suone Pasek (Ken-tee) This is Kentee’s third year as the Ridgway Rendezvous Art & Craft Festival Creative Director.  You will discover that this is a fantastic festival run by an artist, not a promoter.  Kentee is a professional fine artist herself focusing on large scale floral oil paintings who has a strong resume of Sunshine Artist’s top 100 Art & Craft Festivals including Howard Alan Event Festivals as well as the coveted Christmas in the South in Jacksonville, FL.  Kentee’s focus with the Ridgway Rendezvous Art & Craft Festival is making this show the best it can be from an artist perspective.  Planning with a lot of communication to selected artists ahead of time, strong advertising, and many volunteers made this festival top for many of the artists who attend.  Kentee has a double degree in Fine Arts and Recreation Administration from the University of Northern Colorado.  The Ridgway Rendezvous combines both talents making a fantastic fit for this dedicated artist.  Kentee’s biggest tip for applying for the Ridgway Rendezvous Art & Craft Festival this year: “Make sure you present yourself and your items in the most professional way you can.  Make sure your photos are top quality and really showcase your work.  Take time with your written information you send us.  This year the jury will be looking for quality items in all categories.  Booth photos are a must this year!”

Executive Director of Weehawken Creative Arts: Ashley King.    Ashley has been a career events coordinator and manager since 1994 and has been a professional arts administrator since 2000.  Though Ashley’s primary role with this event is to run the administrative functions of the Ridgway Arts and Crafts Rendezvous as well as run Weehawken Creative Arts, Ashley is quite familiar with arts festival planning and works with Kentee as a guiding force.  The 2012 Ridgway Rendezvous will be Ashley’s 24th festival featuring juried vendors.

ABOUT THE JURY:

Weehawken Creative Arts and the Directors of this event feel that a jury is an essential element to the success of a vibrant and enticing show.  Our jury consists of the show founder, several Artists, active volunteers in the community, a Board Member from Weehawken Creative Arts, & a Ouray County citizen.   There are anywhere from 7-11 members at any given review session.   Further, the jury is flushed and refreshed each year.  Jury Members are reviewing categories as a whole, rating applicants/vendors based on application contents.  Your description is read to the group during this process. Though you may have participated in this festival in the past, it is important that you understand that previous participation will not serve as an assurance of participation in this particular show.   Assume that all members are reviewing applications with a “blank slate” and be sure to really take the time to showcase your work through good photos and a quality, descriptive application.
