Michele Gad has been a Colorado resident since 1981. She earned her Bachelor's Degree from the University of Wisconsin - Madison with an emphasis on art. She also studied weaving at Penland School of Arts and Crafts in Asheville, North Carolina as a scholarship recipient. Her creativity and passion for art began in childhood and was nurtured by both of her parents through private art lessons and countless excursions to art museums. Earth, nature, the history and serenity of the Southwest and even a child's smile might be the inspiration for her work which covers a span of more than 30 years. ;She invested over a decade as an instructor - inspiring and teaching others at Colorado Mountain College and Rocky Mountain High School in the Roaring Fork Valley. After weaving with both fiber and beads for over 20 years Michele's artistic path took a sharp, unexpected and magical turn in 2002 while studying gourd art with renowned gourd artist David Snooks. She has been creatively and successfully experimenting with gourds ever since. Her work has received numerous awards and she has been featured in a variety of local publications. For five years she had the pleasure of being one of the featured artists at Main in Motion in Montrose as well as demonstrating at the First Friday Art Walks in Montrose. Her gourd creations begin when she sows their seeds in her organic vegetable garden on her 40 acre ranch/farm. She believes that each uniquely shaped gourd has its own personality that she brings to life in her studio with the addition of beads, metal, dyes, leather, fabric and pyrography. She also designs and constructs multi-media wall sculptures and practices the drawing technique referred to as Zentangle.
